What is the Initial Assessment
An Initial Assessment will be conducted on-site by one of our trained dog handlers with every new dog before bringing them into our Dog Park. Our team member will talk to the pet parent about the dog’s history and health. Once complete, the dog joins our team member in a separate room to observe how they react when away from their parent. Our team observes how the dog interacts with the other dogs to determine their suitability for an open play environment. If for some reason the dog is not yet ready for open play, the team member will recommend steps the parent can take to help address the observed issue(s). Any dog is always welcome to come back for a follow-up evaluation after any issues have been addressed. This process takes about 4 hours and assesses your dog’s temperament and determines if City Paws's facilities will be a right fit for your pet.

What should I bring for personal items when lodging?
You are free to bring personal items for your pet, including food. (See food section for specifications) One or two toys, leash, collar, and food. Please note: Sometimes dogs display behavior that they don't typically at home including chewing on things they normally don't or marking on belongings they never have before. We are not responsible for damage to any personal items you choose to send with your pet.
Should I bring food?
Please provide your pet's food for your stay. This helps ensure that your pet remains on a food they enjoy and that their stomach tolerates well. Please bring the food pre-measured in containers or bags (one meal per container). If you choose to bring food in one bag, please clearly label the bag with feeding instructions. Due to lack of storage, please do not bring whole bags of food. If you forget your pet's food, we will provide food for $5 per day.
What about medications and special diets?
We will gladly administer your pet's oral medications at no additional charge. If your pet has extensive medical needs, you may be asked to participate in our Special Care Program at an additional cost of $20 per day.
Do you offer webcams so I can check in on my dog?
Yes! We offer the pup webcam so you can watch your pup play via live webcam either on a computer or mobile phone. If your dog is lodging in one of our luxury suits, you will have access to that webcam as-well. Our webcams are private so only City Paws parents can view the cameras when your dog is checked in.
I have an older dog, what steps will you take to ensure that they are comfortable?
Our playroom’s flooring is made of compressed rubber, the same material they use in day cares for children. Not only does this protect the pads of dogs’ feet, it also provides a comfortable walking service for dogs suffering from hip dysplasia and other ailments.
Special Care Program
We know that some pets require an extra level of care. Our Special Care Program is designed for those who need extra medical attention, breeds that can't be admitted to regular kennel programs, intact males, and in-heat females. Special care is an additional $20 per day. As part of this program, your pet can be kept separate from the other animals in our care, if you wish. They will receive one-on-one attention, playtime, and potty breaks throughout the day.
What is your spayed/neutered policy?
Intact dogs (both males and females) can disrupt a peaceful play environment, due to aggressive play, humping, dominant behavior or being targeted by other dogs who smell their hormones, feel threatened and lash out! We ask that all males over the age of one be neutered. We require that females be spayed by their first heat to participate in daycare/group play.
What about injuries & accidents?
We take every precaution to keep your pet safe. However, animals can be unpredictable and accidents do happen. In the event that something does happen, you will be notified immediately and your pet will be taken to the University of Minnesota (unless you specify otherwise). Please note dogs play with their mouth and their paws. That fun can lead to small scratches and abrasions.
Can I come take a tour of your facility?
Tours are highly encouraged! Come and see why we have been ranked the best doggy daycare and boarding facility in the Twin Cities!
What discounts are available?
